Dr. Olfa Nasraoui is the founding director of the Knowledge Discovery & Web Mining Lab at the University of Louisville, an endowed chair in e-commerce, and a professor of computer science and engineering. The University of Missouri–Columbia awarded her a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering. She is currently focused on research on fairness and explainability in AI and machine learning, including Deep Learning and Large Language Models. She has conducted research in responsible AI and machine learning, as well as data science, specifically mining high dimensional, heterogeneous data streams, web mining, and recommender systems. In addition to 12 edited volumes, she has over 200 papers in journals, book chapters, and prestigious refereed conferences.

In the field of machine learning research, she has won three Best Paper Awards, a National Science Foundation CAREER award, and other honors. She has worked as the Principal Investigator (PI) on over ten research grant projects in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, data mining, and machine learning, and as the Co-PI or Co-I on eight research grant projects, most of which were financed by NASA and the National Science Foundation. Leading the University of Louisville's ATHENA ADVANCE initiative for STEM faculty equality and achievement, which is financed by the NSF, is Dr. Nasraoui. Since 2018, she has also served as the director of an NSF site for Big Data and Data Science Research Experiences for Teachers.  From 2015 to 2019, she led the Cyber-enabled Discovery Research and Scholarship group at the University of Louisville's Speed School of Engineering. During the University of Chicago's 2015 summer cohort, she worked as a Technical Mentor and Project Lead for the Data Science for Social Good fellowship. As a member of the organizing and program committees for multiple conferences and workshops, Dr. Nasraoui has organized the first-ever Web Mining workshop series, WebKDD 2004-2008, which was a component of the ACM KDD conference. Several of the most prominent international AI and data mining conferences, including as KDD, RecSys, AAAI, IJCAI, ICDM, SDM, and CIKM, have also elected her to Vice-Chair, Track Chair, or Senior Program Committee member status. She is on the editorial boards of Frontiers in Big Data, the International Journal of Machine Learning and Computing, Electronics—Artificial Intelligence Section, and the Journal of Applied Intelligence. She is also on the Distinguished Review Board of ACM Transactions on Recommender Systems. She has also worked as a guest editor for Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery and an associate editor for the IEEE Access journal.
